Brewery Drainage Options

Drainage is an important aspect of any brewery, whether you are building new, retrofitting, or expanding your business. Not only does a trench drain system provide wastewater drainage, but it also can protect against potential spills that could damage products within storage areas. Choosing an appropriate system for your brewery can be a daunting task. The below chart may help.

Brewery trench drains come in various materials. Each system is required to stand up to high temperatures and durability. With a variety of load ratings and flow rates, the most popular drain systems for this application type consist of vinyl ester and stainless steel.

Brewery

Polymer vs Vinyl Ester

Breweries are one of the main applications that Trench Drain Systems works with. One of the systems we suggest using is made of vinyl ester due to the high pH levels of wastewater and high temps found in brewery drainage.

There is a fundamental difference between standard polyester polymer concrete and vinyl ester polymer concrete. It boils down to the type of resin used to create the channels. In a vinyl ester system, instead of polyester or epoxy, vinyl ester resin is used as the bonding agent. This creates a chemical reaction within the mix resulting in several changes in the physical properties of the concrete, which allows for use in high-temperature and corrosive applications.

Stainless Steel

Another option is using a stainless steel trench drain. They are a perfect choice for a brewery trench drain system due to their customization parameters, corrosion resistance, high-temperature threshold, and support of heavy traffic with appropriate covers.

Created with the sanitary food and beverage market in mind, TDS’s SS600 Series™ is a stainless steel trench drain designed for small commercial markets.

Specifying the correct system for your brewery application is incredibly important. Consider what requirements your application needs and choose a system that will meet them. The material used (stainless steel or vinyl ester) determines a successful long-term solution to a functioning drainage system. Load Class should also be among these important aspects, as this will determine what grating can be used.
